Education

BA in languages (São Paulo, London). Specialization degree in translation and simultaneous interpretation from Alumni Association, São Paulo. Two courses on the language of diplomacy, one taught by Ambassador Sérgio Bath and one by Ambassador Rubem Ricupero, São Paulo.

About the Interpreter

Simone is a certified government translator for English and French. She served as chief interpreter at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1982 to 1994, interpreter to the President for French and English from 1980 to 1994, during which time the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assigned her to accompany heads of states on official visits to Brazil and Brazilian presidents on official trips abroad. She has been bestowed the title of Knight of the Order of Rio Branco (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Rio92 – 20 interpreters working in coordination with UN interpreters;
XI UNCTAD – 36 interpreters, São Paulo, June 2004;
Summit of South American-Arab Countries, 84 interpreters, Brasilia, May 2005;
UN COP/MOP, Curitiba, March 2006;
Conference of Intellectuals of Africa and of the Diaspora, 128 interpreters, Salvador, 2006.

Main interest and specialty in the private sector: medicine.

Simone organized a course on medicine for interpreters in São Paulo in 1999; taught Portuguese for interpreters in Buenos Aires in October 2001; organized and taught a Portuguese for interpreters for visiting AIIC interpreters in São Paulo in June 2003; and organized the human genetics course, taught by Dr. Mayana Zatz at the University of São Paulo Genome Center in June 2004.

Chairwoman of the Brazil-based Professional Association of Conference Interpreters (APIC) for three terms (1984-1985, 1993-1994, 1995-1996).

Member of the board of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), representing Brazil from 1996 to 2003.
